Awoke in time for sharing food
with a man, a former emcee.
Scrutinizes now under debris.
Looks, smells, hears just like me, but
helpless with his ration in hand,
a cane in the other to aid his stand.
Rather tall in his soiled blankets
that reach the earth,
eyes of ash gape and
salute jets with mirth
flying so low, reminisces his worth.
I appreciate the shapes made,
the innocence of neighbors,
waving for attention with our arms;
Arms of the world,
with dirt under nails,
hammered to the destruction and
trapped, but by no means releasing the grip
until washed away, in an eloping way.
