August rarely sees the mist
That clings to the flat leafed cedar
And rough barked oak but clouds seemingly
Forget that this is the month of dog days
Spent sweltering in the oil of roses as it is distilled
By too hot sun into a waft of scent
Reminding that the sweetness comes with burn

For today
There is the slow lowering of sky
That brushes against my skin in premonitions
Of the months ahead and how they will lie
In woolen grey over flesh of land as we begin
The rituals preparing us for the sleeps to come
when we find the blanket of clouds too cold
To warm us from within

Too much this mind of mine worries
The ends of frayed days like this

Working free the wrapped strands knotted
In dreams of rain
Till the mist falls and I am left startled
At how soon the season will change

How little the drops began

Such slow damp soaks to the edges of skin
Leaving bones dry
Grass still a crumpled dun blade
And leaves to turn their underbellies up
Waiting for the long fingered strokes of cloud
To bring roots relief

August finds cruelty to be a benign judgment of days
That goes against the nature of ruling by fire
A burn within the soul denied

When the clouds come
as in a slothful silence they bring fall rains
And early latitude to mark changes

Slow drops gathered
Bring thoughts again to rain
and

you

M... some days... are just filled with too much the mind...worrying on things like a bone the dog can not quite bury..or chew..
