"Christmas Mourning" Darkness lies behind me And darkness looms ahead Shadows grasp and bind me And fill my nights with dread A sadness fills my soul Where once your kindness dwelt And hope is swallowed whole Before its even felt Why should I feel cheerful, When you're so far away? Your mem'ry leaves me tearful For yet another day Bury deep my sorrow Don a glad disguise At least until tomorrow No grief shall cloud my eyes December 24, 2009 AMdG "My candle burns at both ends; it will not last the night; but ah, my foes, and oh, my friends--it gives a lovely light!" -Edna St. Vincent Millay |
