    A Long Sadness Apart

As the frigid northwest wind
blows grey-broken clouds
across a thousand miles
   of desolation
beneath a cold, indifferent
   Winter moon,
stars and frost are the
only companions of
this lonely spirit-seeker
and the wandering
midnight shadows,
thinking only of you
and perfect Love
a long sadness apart.
