Unfinished Starts Unfinished starts I look back through, Thinking I might just "write" today. For it’s come to pass nothing new Will touch this mind shaded to gray. Used to be black, used to be white, But never a thing in-between . Sharp edges to the words I’d write, My countenance: a polished sheen. Now, looking back, I start to see The pattern of words forming here, Mimicking life, at least for me, Efforts half-hearted, insincere. They stare at me, their creator. I but see the void in their diction. A squandered gift, I stand traitor, Sold out to sheer lack of conviction. All the preemptive feelings lost: Those things dreamt of, pages to turn… Now dead in me, anemic cost Of watching all that I’ve touched burn. We, as men, with beliefs instilled At early age, tend not to stray. Often wrong, will remain self-willed As all, once cared for, drifts away. Why can’t we just open that door? Stop pretending to know it all? The fear of learning one thing more Keeping us perched atop that wall. I look at each unfinished page, Abandoned to a changed belief, (When change should be growth, not a cage), And see I’m cause to my own grief. Michael Anderson 02/17/2019 |

You illuminate the darkness with your poetry. Your words ache and yet I’m so glad to read you again. You have a way with expressing deep emotion that one can not help but feel. |

Michael... What a pleasure to read your poetry again. You touch my heart every time I read one of your poems. If you ever want to throw some of those un-finished ones my way I would gladly cherish them. Your thoughts and words amaze me...Paul ~~To share my poems with you is to share my heart with you~~ |

Michael, Every writer goes through this malaise, but I have never seen a better treatment of the condition! Write on! |

I'm looking at which words rhyme. Just cut it off at "burn" and it's perfect. |

Ah. My friend. Since I've come to know you, a Michael in your own right, I've come to know other Michaels...a Balladeer, a grandson, a boss or two, and a soon to be son by love. But you will always hold that place where I once worried over you, only to learn...this is how you survive...and I pray you will always be in my sight, in the blue pages. |

I've seen a lot of growth in your poetry since I have been reading you, Micheal. A gathering of wisdom. |
