Listen to me, youngster- Don’t make the same mistake, That I did, before you were even born. If you find a girl who loves you, her tender heart don’t break- Because time and life will even up the score. Don’t take her love for granted, it is a tender bloom. An orchid in a garden full of thorns. A treasure that is priceless, entrusted now to you- An emotion that the loser always scorns. My wife had the impression, that I had hung the moon. I could do no wrong in her young eyes. She trusted I’d be faithful, like any storied groom- There awaited her a very rude surprise. Foolish and so selfish, to say the very least- I tore her heart out time and time again. She found she had no lover, just a selfish cruel beast- Who slowly choked the love she held within. Looking back, it breaks my heart, Sometimes it almost causes me to cry- The things I took for granted, and the callous attitude- Displayed by me while watching her love die. There is no resurrection, for a love that you have killed- Though duty bound us tightly through the years. I would give the universe, if it were mine to give. If I could but erase those bitter tears. |
