Land of the Beast-666 In town, the sheriff represented the law with a 6 pointed star. He enforced it with his trusted 6 shooter. When they bury you, you’re buried 6 feet under and there are 6 pallbearers to carry the casket. The American flag has 6 white stripes between seven red ones. There are 6 coins in our money base – penny, nickel, dime, quarter, half dollar and the dollar. We speak in 6 tenses – past, present, future, past perfect, present perfect and future perfect. There are 6 vowels – a, e, i, o, u and sometimes “y”. There are 60 seconds in a minute, 60 minutes in an hour and 360 degrees in a circle. And when you get off work, you go and buy your 6-pack. You go home and plop down in front of the 6 sided box called a TV. You click the remote so you don’t miss the 6 o’clock news. And when the newscaster’s words bristle the hairs on the back of your neck, your 6th sense stands on end as you rotate on a planet that races around the Sun at 66,600 miles per hour! This “is” the Land of the Beast and you are in his house. Welcome home! Namyh |

Hey Sky! Thanks for getting that special spinal chill. It helps to inject a smile into these old bones with pride that this work didn’t disappoint. Strangely this piece came from riding in a car and passing a church that had a marquee outside which said – “We’re living in the land of the Beast – sermon 9 AM Sunday”. It was just a passing momentary thing that stayed impacted in my head until one afternoon I began to put it to paper and this was the result. Poets! Go figure! We never know from where the slightest inspiration will come. We’re life’s sponges who will suck up everything and then squeeze it out in poetry so it can drip like rain over everybody who reads it.! Thanks for stopping in Sky. Glad you got a little wet. I’'m gonna start selling umbrellas in the morning!! LOL. Namyh |

Michael - Makes one think about how so many different things funnel down to those sixes and in time become less disputable or even noticeable. Here's another - Not only are there 6 coins in the money system, but there are 6 paper dollar units most commonly used also - one dollar bill, five dollar, ten dollar, twenty dollar, fifty dollar and the one hundred dollar bill. Now when we hear people say they must pay the devil to earn their keep, get a shiver and put on a smile because now we know exactly what they mean.
