What if one day you realize that you aren't the person you thought you were? What if other people's misguided but well intentioned opinions about you are actually what shaped you while your true self was screaming and roaring from the deep to at least be realized? What if the beast that is pushed down and caged, in order to fulfill outside expectations, is not a thing that should be allowed to roam? What if, instead of having a monster, you ARE the monster? Madness marches in and with it fingers that have been slowly pulling her down into charred holes grab and use her to climb. Programming to steady herself stand ground and continue blindly with nice at almost any cost was all along a ladder for the damaged and accumulated pieces that had fallen to the below. It stands now on her head poisonous crown made up of ignored things, and while she thinks she's been queened it's essence bleeds upward and out leaving shells to rule the emptiness of a self made cage. This is an old beast and it is seeking its maker. "How much is real? So much to question An epidemic of the mannequins Contaminating everything" Stone Sour [This message has been edited by Temptress (07-09-2020 08:50 PM).] |

This feels like falling into a dark hole, I found it gnawing and uncomfortable to read. I loved it. I would say though that the monsters that I have met have never had level cognisance to recognise themselves for what they are. |

Temptress...Very thoughtful write. Facing the beast and either let it consume you or fighting with all of your might to beat the beast. Reminds me of what an addict must go through when trying to stop whatever they are addicted to. Enjoyed...Paul ~~To share my poems with you is to share my heart with you~~ |

...And it's loosed. There's so much depth to this piece, Jenn. The face we show outwardly vs the seethe within. How it festers and grows within us, slowly overtaking us, ultimately seeking its creator. Beautiful and complete in all facets. "leaving shells to rule the emptiness" I can relate to that line well. Marshalzu, Thank you. It takes a lot of courage to be able to self examine in an honest way. As far as the way it made you feel, that lets me know that the writing conveys what I wanted. 2islander2, Thank you. I think we must accept all parts of ourselves and deal with them. I'm working on the mastering. I have been for a while. "How much is real? So much to question |

Paul, Thank you. I have been on all sides with that beast. I hadn't thought of it from the standpoint of an addict. That is definitely an interesting perspective to think about. "How much is real? So much to question |

Michael, Thank you. I always tried to show my best faces. It's what we're expected to do for the sake of others. I have let it overtake me at times, but at least I learned a little something about my enemy in the process. The creator never seems to have one form or be one situation. I wouldn't wish for anyone to be able to relate to this, but I'm glad it reached you. "How much is real? So much to question |

each day we wake anew, look in the mirror and ask am I strong enough today to be myself...not the one created by others but the light of the one who dwells deep within waiting for the courage to come out into the light...wow...I loved this poem |

Starmcneil 1955, Thank you. I'm not so sure what dwells deep within is the "good guy". I've had to accept some things about myself over the years that were very difficult to accept. It took me a long time to see myself beyond how other people saw me. It was necessary for acceptance. That said. I don't know if this makes sense, but just because there is acceptance of the bad doesn't mean that I have to live those parts of me. "How much is real? So much to question |
