I smoked cigars and cigarettes, I puffed upon a mellow pipe, Drank brandy by the tubful, Ate pastries, beef and tripe, Before I learned the hazards Of the way that I was living And cut my bacchanalian feasts Down to Christmas and Thanksgiving. I've rid my house once and for all Of every deleterious weed, Smashed bottles like a virago On a temperance stampede. So now I'm fit and healthy Like marathoners and their ilk. I partake of fruit and salad Washed down with water and skim milk. All smokers and imbibers And gross gluttons I now shun. And I spend my evenings wondering What's there to do for fun? |
