I Should Have Known

I should have known from the way I met you
That this would be the way
But at the time I was so ecstatic
I only wanted you to stay

I let myself fall for a cheater
Convinced it could not happen again
I wonder if that’s how she felt
Herself way back then

I loved you so, you took it for granted
The game was no longer new
I awoke one day to realize
You were someone I never knew

That didn’t stop my love from growing
I fell more everyday
Believing lies from your sweet lips
Begging you to not go away

I should have known from the way I met you
That this is how it would end
Here I’m standing watching you leaving
And she’s where I was then.

We know. We've always known. Sometimes, though, we close our eyes to the knowing. Always gets us in the end, though, doesn't it? Nicely written.
