What is it about my name That people find so intriguing? I mean..it's just my name. People tell me "you should do unique things with a name like that." And I say.. Why? Lavada...sounds original to me...why do people have to say "Unique" or "Intriguing"? Why can't it be Lavada? I was named after my great-grandmother She died 4 years ago.. Now people say.."you live up to the name" What if I don't? Will I be denounced As a family member? I don't want to be like her... I want to be like me Just me... I really like your poem, I can understand why you might feel this way. Living up to a name or to the legend of another person is never easy. I suppose it wouldn't help to say that you do have a lovely name, but it is true. I look forward to reading more of your work. ![]() -Penny My advice in life is; talk to yourself, you never know what you'll learn. |

scg: to quote shakespeare: "what is in a name?/ a rose by any other name would still smell as sweet"... what i mean by that is that the name does not make the person... look at the most influential figure in history, Jesus. In his day, Jesus was a very common name... think of other famous people: George Washington, Charles Darwin, and Henry Ford... all common names... sure, there are some odd names in history (few people name their kid Adolf anymore), but it is the inside that makes the difference, not the title... think also of this: the most influential people in history have not been kings or princes, but simple men... thomas edison, jesus of nazareth, johann gutenburg (made the printing press)... these people changed history, yet they held no governmental title... so what is in a name? only what you put into it ![]() sincerely, jerome the boy with no brain A savage place! as holy and enchanted As e'er beneath a waning moon was haunted By woman wailing for her demon-lover! ~Coleridge |

That's a really great poem and I know exactly what you mean. With an Arabic name like Salma people always wonder why it's so different and weird and they usually can't pronounce it. But once people actually get to know you they meet the person behind the name and it's nice really. So just be yourself and go get um! Salooma |
