Years ago I watched Fiddler on the Roof Wondered at the feelings The old father expressed His desire to study the book With the other men Years ago I studied - In college - the Gospels Because I had to Years ago - a wastrel I led a life of fun Intolerant of others Who didn't share my views One day I got sucked in In time - not so long ago A bunch of peers were to learn As we studied together The whole book It is weekly now- My faith still strong I plod the ancient pages We challenge, question, and wonder And I think back To that stripling lad Who couldn't understand Why that old patriarch Loved his Talmud studies. And why he was made To study the gospels. |

Wilfred, This is wonderful writing and thank you for sharing this side of you. I too, so enjoy study groups and discussions of the Bible. Not for argument sake (I will shy away from that), but to learn and have doors open through Christ, that otherwise I would not have known. Amen, for our older generation who pushed us toward God and taught us His way, insomuch as we returned to Him & bask in His joy. Thank you for this one, ![]() Marcy ps: I think you are a excellent writer, I've read several at open forum, which are in a class by themself - top notch! |

Marcy- Thank you - I accept totally and without question - every single one of Christ's words in the gospels - I have much more difficulty accepting some other words I find elsewhere- A simple example: I find Paul's misogyny and his treatment of slavery unacceptable. So from that I can extrapolate to the concept that such words must be interpreted with faith in the light of current times and not as some still do say "It's in the book- it must be so" |

I really liked this! Our family got together once a week to do studies together. Not so much anymore, but we will start that up again. Once you've learned it, you may stray, but eventually return to what you learned. Train up a child in the way he should go, and he shall never depart from it! Great job!! |

Terrific job here Wilfred....It's funny how so often we'll be lost, only to find ourselves again when we remember to open the "book!" Wonderful piece. Bonnie |

Wht Dove- reading/discussing with family - WOW - I'm impressed - the politics of my family is so spread - (and necessarily affects views of how to interpret ) the thought of non-srgumentative discussion is - remote at best - thank you BSC- I've great faith - always have - but raised catholic - and knowing I could never be fundemental - makes reading and discussing a careful occupation - that still draws me thanks ![]() |
