A MAN IN THE WILDERNESS With a tender but steady step, A gait neither stern nor trivial, A man tread his path. Past the seven story huts and clay skyscrapers And glass and steel people, The fashionplate women and warrior merchants Rolled by, staring straight empty stares with Ball bearing eyes and neo-plaid ties. The wretched and the stately poor watched The man pushing past pavement; They noticed his profile, His posture of a fighter who wears no holster or sword And does not stand protected with gloves or clenched fists Full of dollars: A manner they remember from some vague foreign tale. Silently demanding, pleading and threatening, Those that rush immobile as statues, Different only in the special Essence that craggy life can perfect, Expecting a Santa or at least A Good Eastwood. The observers turn at the sight of a slight smile, Sympathetic and real. The horror and disgust with all of The effort and work of this man holding Two beams fastened with the care of a craftsman. For all the trouble, they thought, Wouldn’t the trees better be moulded Into a club to beat down oppressors Instead of a weight to bear, an anchor to shoulder. Thaddeus M. Figlock This is not a new poem, I wrote it a few years ago, but this is my first electronic posting of it. I welcome comments and critique - of both the content and poetic composition. I have no critique for you at this time. But, I would like to thank you for sharing this with us....I'm glad you decided to do that. This is a unique perspective, one in which I've never quite seen this way before. I like the imagery you used here. And that last stanza hits home. By not using force with others but to bare His cross. All they did to Him, spit on him, called Him names, nailed Him to a cross...and never once did He retaliate. What an example...a hard one to follow for sure. Thank you for sharing!! <*\\\>< Jesus is the reason for the season |

Very powerful sentiment, here, especially the ending. Leads one to question the humanity of humanity. Michael |

Thank you for your kind words, WhtDove and Michael. Both of your comments point to a great paradox this poem just touches upon - the inhumanity of humanity and God's response through the humanity of Christ. |

Wow...let me just sit here and reread this, maybe let it soak in for awhile....very interesting indeed! So glad you shared it! I would have never thought to use the imagery as you did! Fabulous! I too, have nothing to say about it, as far as critique, I'm still in awe at how you did this! Marvelous.....I'll get back to you if I find something "wrong" with it ! HA - - - If I can just touch you once, then I feel I have accomplished what I am called to do...- - pFF |

I can think of nothing to say, accept I truly enjoyed it!! ~*~ Hell is not a place of fire and a devil with a tail and horns. But a place of torment because the light of God is gone. To escape this, accept the blood of Jesus Christ! ~*~ |

Just wanted to say that I like it also. You have some very discriptive language in it. Enjoyed it very much. |

Two thumbs up! Enjoyable to read! You did an excellent job! I love the male body, it's better designed than the male mind.---Andrea Newman |
