Flowers Oh what would this world be today Without those treasures fair, Without them would their beauty stay? I think it would be bleak and bare, What would it be to pass along Not a flower to be seen, Or a little bird to sing it's song Amid the trees so green? Oh, sweet beautiful flowers, How you cheer the lonely hours, Of the most weary, sick and sad, Making one an all hearts glad, Smiling, nodding, bending low.. As the gentle breezes blow Then lets be thankful in all things and Even for little flowers.. For it was Him the King of Kings Created them by His great powers, And they "unlike poor sinful man Who seldon does the best he can" Spring up and all their duty do, In meek obedience pure and true, To magnify His matchless powers.. Is that thy mission, Oh beautiful flowers? ******* I never met my grandmother who wrote this, she died at age 40 in 1929. She wrote this in 1918 and sent it to my grandfather when they were courting by letters. |

What a lovely inheritance. And you can know so much about her just from her little verse. That was why I started writing, to leave soemthing for my grandchilden to remember me by. Joyce |

Songbird: How thoughtful of you to share your grandmother's poetry with us. My maternal grandmother also wrote poetry and I have several books of her handwritten work that I truly treasure. Betty Lou Hebert |
