Radiant Light and Ebony Night Into a land of Ebony night Fell a star of Radiant Light The Darkness rushed to put it out In panic calling upon Pitch with a shout. Yet the light grew and grew in size 'Till Darkness could not cover its eyes In grave alarm Ebony assaulted With graceful aplomb, Light exalted Radiance grew stronger and larger Darkness withdrew, weaker and smaller Until the land of Ebony night Was utterly consumed by Radiant Light. Defeated, Darkness fled to abyssal spelunking To brood in clefts of rocky overhang. Light increased in brilliance and splendor Inhabiting a land now burst asunder. Light's warm glow brought flowers to bear Strong trees grew tall and stately there Birds of very kind were irresistibly drawn Sweet songs of mirth were heard each dawn. Shadows cannot cast their gloomy spell Where'er Radiant Light chooses to dwell |

This poem has that special appeal that only comes when the writer has managed to convey EXACTLY what they intended to. I liked the intense personifications that you gave to Light and Darkness in your poem. Almost story book like in character. I liked how you displayed the battle between the two opposing forces and how Dark is defeated and Light is victorious in the end. I always like a good ending. Good job. -Bob |

Exquisitely written and glorious analogy! A friend hears the song in my heart, and sings it to me when my memory fails. |
