I look around at this small room, and what do I see; bars on my windows, looking back at me, Some would say, “She deserves this for her part;” What they don’t see is the freedom in my heart. You see God visited me with His marvelous grace; He touched my heart, erased the tears from my face, Why He loved me so much, I will never know; How thankful I am He allowed His Son to Calvary go. Upon that cruel cross He suffered, bled, and died; I have received His Son, and with me, He now abides, I have bars on my windows, but freedom in my heart; I praise Jesus for salvation, to me, He did impart. There are many who have no bars on their windows; They have fancy cars, homes, and lovely clothes, How tragic they do not have freedom in their hearts; From God’s salvation, they are so far apart. Freedom is an interesting thing, wouldn’t you agree; There are different types of freedom to see There is temporary freedom that many people know; I prefer eternal freedom, for to heaven I will go. I will live forever with my Jesus whom I love so; I will sit at His feet in His majestic glow I have bars on my windows, but freedom in my heart; Thank You Jesus, from me, You will never depart. Songbird; This poem was written for a woman who is in prison. While there, she has come to know the Lord. Her life has changed dramatically, and I wrote the poem for her and sent it to her. If I told you her name, you would recognize her. I am enjoying reading the wonderful spiritual poems being posted here. Wanda |

Great poem Wanda. How kind of you to write this for someone in prison and I'm sure it means a lot to her. Glad you are posting here. Betty Lou Hebert |

Coward that I am, I couldn't answer this until I found out that it wasn't you in prison. I didn't want to go to bed feeling bad. It is lovely of you to write this about another who is in that situation and I am sure she appreciates it. Love, Joyce |

Joyce; I write much of my poetry in 1st. person. But, I write of different situations, for different reasons, and of different people. I guess I try to think, "What is this person thinking and experiencing as they go through this particular experience; then I pen those imagined feelings." But, you don't really know me so I can understand why you would wonder if this person happened to be me, the author. The person for which I wrote this poem was pleased with the poem. She will be in prison probably for the duration of her life. I am thankful for the prison ministry that helped her to come to know the Lord. Her whole demeanor has changed, she spends time reading the Word, and does appreciate receiving spiritual things to read. Again, let me say, "Thank you for your response." Wanda |
