Of "Common" Things Give common things to show God's worth by sweetly serving him in all. And pray his Heavenly will in Earth that commonplace might heed his call. Let ordinary living shine illustrious with holy oil. Enrobe each routine act divine thus consecrating daily toil. Give common things to speak God's praise by doing each unto his glory. And he shall tell of common days through you a most uncommon story, making tasks considered plain as jewels with incandescent gleam. For works which most would call mundane in Christ are never what they seem. -SDJ 1/2000- |

Dear Stephen; This is so true and easy for me to forget. A little smile, a loving touch, a glass of water given..... all the little things. A humble and simple poem with a profound message. Well done. thanks, ellie 02 |

What a needed message! It's not the once in a lifetime decorated hero, but the dedicated everyday Joe that makes the biggest difference. Nice work. |

Stephen, I like the sensitive, caring perspectives I have seen in your poems. This one is great. The glory of the ordinary-if touched by the Master's hand and part of the Master's plan, "in Christ are never what they seem." thank you for your timely message, David "Our Creativity points to a Higher Creator--we couldn't have just happened, and for what ability we may possess--to God be the glory." -dlw- |

Wow i really liked this - it reminded me of Smith Wigglesworth (i'm reading one of his books at the moment) who was just a plummer who couldn't read, and God used him to do mighty things and impact many people. It's so true that even the things we consider small can be used in a big way by God, ('cause He's a BIG God!), just like a smile for a stranger on a dreary day. This made me smile, thanks! |
