We are governed by law In this lawless land People rise to the occasion To lead us to the promised land One nation under God Red, white and blue As America turns its back on the belief in you Liberty and justice Indivisible we stand As our families fall victim To some invisible hand Love thy neighbor Civil disputes Their garbage spills over Hurry to file suit Freedom of speech What did you say? Now you know you can't pray In our schools today Become one and make many has now become Make many and don't settle for just one We fear for our children Their safty from harm Huggs and kisses are replaced By our right to bear arms Across this great nation Zero tolerance in schools As if even the adults Play by the rules Thou shalt not covet As we keep up with the Jones' Did you see their new pool? I bet they look down their noses Thou shalt not steal On double coupon day I didn't tell the cashier I didn't buy that toothpaste Thou shalt not have No other God before me As our children are babysat with 40 hours of TV With blackeyes and bruises The wife lives in shame A fine is given And he's back at it again Don't dare spare kind words To those in despair You know they must have done something To put themselves there Headlines and sensationalism We cast stones, boulders, asteroids USA Today Grocery store tabloids The Bible is sacred and full of solutions As we feverishly argue Theories of evolution Blindly autocratic Liberal democractic Republican views? Depends on the news Plea of Guilty Luke warm lament Technicalities Of a well spoken president Rubb those elbows with people in power You never know who will be above you As you climb the career tower Honor thy Mother and Father If we ever find time Maybe while we're stuck in traffic And our cell phones don't die Friday is the sabbath For this we thank God We live for the weekends They are never long enough Nobility wanes To the nations poor "Let them eat cake" Or maybe crumbs on the floor Freedom of the press Captures our attention Print that article What is the media's intention? Supply and demand Built this great empire Every day another dollar What is "retire"? We toss our elderly To the sea side Hoping they'll wash away Who said they were wise? Hey nobody's perfect make the best of each day Never hang your head low Don't ever be ashamed You are a Smith, Roberts Or a Jones You are better than this Our Lawyers say so Heathcare and insurance You'd better be covered Those BMW's and Mansions Must be afforded We label our churchs Our religion is superior Any other religion Is always inferior We battle the race No matter the color For God's sake There can never be another The prisons are full Of those on death row Waiting for the Governors To Pardon their souls Thou shalt not kill We feed on who did it Doesn't matter the death Of anyone's spirit We hail up great heros Vainly we forget Medals of honor Has God won one yet? Addictions and afflictions Out of wed-lock births Things like that Aren't acceptable in church Keep your chin up Keep a positive attitude It's all in the mind They've got drugs for that too Controversy? Lack of faith? What sort of attempt is this? Self righteousness? Blindness? Unstable fits? No....I beg you... apply your thoughts The trumpet resounds for all of us Cling to the beauty of the cross And know in our hearts all is not lost Controversy? The world has its way Of making it obvious The need for Judgement Day Where shall we find comfort within? I Thessalonians 4:14-18 until then [This message has been edited by rwood (edited 03-07-2000).] |

r; WOW! Part of my brain wants to go into denial that it isn't that bad, but I can't, because it's all true. Their is a little more to the serenity prayer, part of it goes like this; " take this world as it is, not as we would have it". The answer is as you say, We are the answer as we stay close to God! Thank you, this is a very incredible poem! Love, Ellie 02 |

Thanks Ellie. I'm glad you understood my constructive critical view. I won't dwell on this I promise! We truly are the answer. A close knit quilt of faith sewn with the expertise of those who have known God for a long time and the rest of us get woven in! Thanks so much for the perfect stitches you all are adding to my life. WOW! You know there are billboards going up in Chicago that say... What part of thou shalt not...didn't you understand? Yes, the Bible predicts it will get much worse as time comes to it's end here. And it is for sure. They may not allow kids to hold prayer in school, but we have to remember, you can pray ANYWHERE~ They can still pray there, or anywhere they are. This has said more than a mouthful, lots to ponder and think about. |

r - WOW...I was wondering what I would think about today.....guess I know now!!!! What a great piece of work. How sad that this is where the world is....and ignoring so many of today's problems isn't going to make them go away....as Ellie said, it's getting back to and staying close with God. Thanks for sharing this eye-opening piece. Bonnie |

RWOOD, I am awed, and humbled by this excellent assessment, and anwer to a good nation going awry. You've sad a mouthful and a heartful--I think that this should be turned into a min-book or tract and widely distribute through out our nation, our churches, or homes. It is a careful analysis with constructive criticism and a call back from the brink. A truly masterful work! David |

I, too have written of many of these same things, but separately, and of course never so elequently as you've composed this great piece. I say AMEN to each of the above compliments and to David saying it twice(that's how things were emphasized in the bible..) Thank you for writing and sharing this . God bless. |

Thanks everyone for the support and wonderful comments. There is so much more on the above subject. I know everyone could add to it forever. But Someday God will be our proverbial Statue of Liberty as we enter the gates of Heaven! Offering more than our dreams imagine. God bless you all ![]() Sincerely Rwood |
