Like a turtle on its back My tender delicate flesh Was turned wrong side up Exposed to a harsh searing heat And for my survival I struggled, at last pulling myself Into my shell Living yet, all but dead One day my turtle shell existence Began to crack apart When someone Took notice of a turtle Others thought was a stone He gently picked me up Examined my hard shell home Held me close to his ear Hearing a faint heart beating And a uniqueness all my own Despite my weathered look And the hardness of my shell He was sure he'll found the treasure All his life he'll been looking for. So if this true story needs a morale Maybe this one will suffice Be careful where you place your steps The stone you step upon today Tomorrow might be your wife. |

I love the end of this, and can't help but chuckle! Thank you! <*\\\>< Our background and circumstances may have influenced who we are, but we are responsible for who we become. |

I like the way that your heart thinks, your husband is a lucky man, and he must be quite a guy. Jester |

Stepsong, Wonderful!! Now, you took a turtle and gave me many lessons in this poem. The turtle on his back, one lesson, you noticed and examined for life with tender care, this hard shell, watch what we say today that tomorrow we do not eat our words!! On and on. You folks don't know what talent you have. I get to benefit from all this. Amen. Marcy |

Thanks for the smiles this brought today. I never look a turtle in quite the same way. Thanks for sharing this. Bonnie |

i enjoyed this work. i too got a chuckle, thinking of the genuine comparison of myself to a clumsy, helpless turtle. good one. |

Dear Septsong, This is so great. I know I was a turtle too. My hubby got a real broken one. But he helped me heal and realize everyone is someone. Such a wonderful poem! Sincerely, Rwood |
