Grandma's Hand The roses are still there lining the walk just like they always did. Manicured, fertilized, free of grass and weeds, they haven't missed her touch… yet. Her chickens, fat, contented, healthy, clucking and crowing just like they always have… they haven't missed her either, yet. Home. Neat and tidy, frying pan on the stove waiting to cook her morning egg, wedding rings on the window sill above the sink where they always sat when she washed the dishes, and her bedroom, slightly stuffy, in disarray from constant use with medicine bottles on the night stand, her worn, red robe draped across the bedside chair, a glass of water for her teeth, and her bible, always there, all waiting, not missing her… yet. Every tree, blade of grass, brick, pot and dish, all the clothes, the floors, ceilings and walls, chickens, rats in the shed, vegetables in her garden, everything has felt her touch, all have a story to tell, and they don't miss her… yet. God's child, she loved everything, from the largest to the smallest, her family being life itself. She touched all, warmly, gently, lovingly, as she was touched by Him, who was first in all she did. She gave of herself in every way, always smiling, with her heart, and her soul, always sharing her love of God, and His power to brighten every day. She was everything, and everything awaits her, not missing her… yet, not knowing we buried her today. W. James Beard, Jr. [This message has been edited by jwesley (edited 05-29-2000).] |

James; I absolutely loved this one. I know exactly what you are talking about and the love for MeeMaw is shared in your every line. God showed us favor when we have/had Grandparents such as your lovely poem described. Thank you for sharing. Tender and precious, so loving. Blessings, Marcy |

I certainly would have missed a blessing if you had not chosen to share this with us. Very nice piece of writing. |

Friend , This is a glorious tribute to evidently a gret influence and blessing in your life--I am happy you shared this fully detailed, loving remembrance with us here. It is a lovely piece--and a lasting tribute to one whose influence will live on no doubt in the lives of many. Thank you, David "GOD GIVES- but man must open his hand." (German Proverb) |

James; This brings tears to my eyes, because although I lost my dear Nanny many years ago, I still miss her tender love for me. Thank you so much for sharing this beautiful and heart warming poem. Ellie 02 |

Thank you all...glad I decided to post this. We all have special people in our lives, and she would have been special even if she wasn't my grandmother...all you had to do is meet people she met and you'd know that. I am extremely happy to have known her. And her faith in / love of God was without parallel. jwesley |

A grandmother is a wonderful gift, and the more wonderful the gift, the harder it is to give back. But it had to be done. I hope writing this helped you. "We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars." -Oscar Wilde |
