Ben My young son buried his turtle today. A match box repose, He pushed in his nose, To make the box close. We dug him a grave, Shallow but tight. We were determined, To do this thing right. We bowed our heads, Said a turtle prayer. Val halla we sent him, All in a flair. So dry were his eyes, He took it so well. So calm was his face, My heart went to swell. We shook hands and parted, He to the house. I went to work, Said nothing to spouse. But when I came home And looked in the yard, I let out a moan, Completely off guard. There was my son, On hands and knees, The grave was undone, I could not believe. He could not conceive, His turtle called Ben, Would not wake up And play once again. |

Seymour~ I came back to print 'Ben' out and couldn't help but notice that you said this one is 50 years old. What a VERY special treasure it is indeed. Not that the age of it made it any more tender ... but it sure gave me that sense of flipping through the Rolodex of your memories. You are something special, dear man. ~*Marge*~ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ [email protected] |

Dear Sy, first, I imagine that your 50+ year old son is quite the gentleman with his father's heart... And now, I would ask that you being reprising in poetic term some of your 50 year memories for us, for they will be treasures to cherish, indeed. Sunshine Look, then, into thine heart, and write ~~~ Henry Wadsworth Longfellow |
