Big Brown Eyes ![]() Santa has come and gone, reindeer barks and sleight bell rings have faded in the breeze; little children and grown-ups, too, open their eyes wide in delight and yell in glee, while big brown eyes outside the living room window gaze in wonder and yearning, inside, at you and me. Big brown eyes, wrapped in the raggedy hood of a thread-bare coat, with sandal-shoes, mismatched socks, too short jeans and burning belly, stare at the table of food. Still not seen, of course not heard, big brown eyes trickle tears that freeze and fall in little cubes to mix with knee-deep snow in silent song from cold blue lips softly singing… I wish I was you. ![]() w. james beard, jr. Oh how sad...I wanted to reach out to the child and bring him/her inside with me. You really evoked some strong feelings with this one. Elizabeth You cling to your ways and leave mine to me. Suum cuique. ~Elizabeth |

The title brought me to read, I am really happy that I did. This is a beautiful poem for the sad, lonely homeless. Nicely written, from an obviously very warm heart. Look within the heart of a poet, and you will see a reflection of their soul. |

Thanks, my friends, for feeling. Have to admit, I, too, had a wetness in the eye when I added the last four words. I've seen these kids, not outside the window, and others too, living in ways I'd not wish on anything. An old one I wrote, similar to this about a man I actually saw... See That Man See the people, see the crowds, laughing, and gay, talking, waving their hands, and window shopping, as they go on their way. See that man, over there, before the window where the Christmas Tree stands. See the colored lights, and Christmas balls, reflecting in his eyes, and on his cheeks, where the tears run. See that man, crying, alone, forgotten, dying inside. See that man… oh please, see that man. w. james beard, jr. Thanks for caring... jwesley |

jwesley--You write a poem of heart...so many people don't see with it, I'm glad you do. |
