All around me, cold floor and walls of gray and on far wall, a small window peeks the dawn of day. Like many days before, I'm drawn beyond the sill. And again, like many yesterdays, stands a man on the hill. Far away is he, his ghost-like presence in misty form, whether the day is sunny warm or during raging storm. Do I know him, I wonder, or should I even care why the man on the hill is always standing there. Some days I see movement, slight and in slow motion. Am spellbound for moments, like I've swallowed magic potion. Next minute he's not there, and I fret where he could be. I blink my eyes; he reappears, lounging by the tree. The man in the distance, by the tree on the hill from my prison, everyday, I watch beyond the sill. His purpose I must guess at so I choose to believe that he comes without fail to offer me reprieve. I watch him covertly, mingling thoughts in my mind. Maybe soon my eyes will open and I won't be so blind. Suppose I don't want to know, his purpose goes untold. A mystery I should live with, not question it, just hold. As the sun sets for the evening, faint shadow I still see of the man by the tree... on the hill... looking at me. I curl up in the corner, entranced beyond the sill, Fantasizing of that man....the man on the hill. *This poem does not have any ~real~ value. Chanson, seems to me the man on a hill was a fool on a hill for not taking advantage of a captive audience. ![]() Kethry "It is the image in the mind that links us to lost treasures; but it is the loss that shapes the image, gathers the flowers weaves the garland."- |
