when as a child my brother left, getting there before me, how was i to still enjoy the playground or woods or bikes? when but a bit older so left my grandma, getting there before me, how could i find myself being reproached by love for my mischief? when older even still, friends lost their grips, getting there before me, how would i share experiences, joys, ideas or good times alone? when older than now, inevitability takes my parents, getting there before me, how will I find security, surety, unrequited love of the one's never thought would leave me? when older makes possibility my purest love's wings soar, getting there before me, how should I find a reason to go on? without the purity of life by my side? get there first? --------------------------------------------------- getting there before me, their smiles radiate on my life. my brother, grandma, friends are already there before me. my parents, other friends, and the love of my life are here with me in this place of now. no matter what the future brings, i can "prance" forward with happiness, and hope thanks to the beauty of the smiles of those getting there before me. There are many in my life who have gone as well, EveGnosis, "getting there before me". A very genuine look at how you feel, and I appreciated the chance to read it. Very nicely done. Thanks for the commentary that the poem sequed into, as the last question of the poem left me very concerned for you who are so glowing in emotion. Never is the choice to "get there before" someone. One day we'll all be, until then the beauty of life always shines through the darkness. Enjoy it! I am with you in that regard. Good poem, friend! |
