April Fool Headlights cutting gaping swaths- Through the night ahead. Thinking of the next go-round... Excitement mixed with dread. Dreams of going all the way- Plans to take the Gold! Somewhere deep within my mind- I hear, "You're getting old"! Angrily, I shake my head- There's no one there to see... Or interrupt the argument, That goes on...me with me... Common sense just has no chance- Fantasy will win... I'll pay my dues, and draw my bulls, And start it all again. Thirty-five last April first- I rode in Abilene... An April Fool is what I am- And doomed to chase my dream. Each year is paying less and less- Yet, still, my passions rule. With forlorn hopes to be the Best, I'm just an April fool. |
