When Antiochus burnt the Hebrew temple down to a system of idolatry, the conquered frowned; resisters would guard their beliefs in One defending the Macabee mount they left their sons. Candles burn strong until they are eight the macabeans were tough to retaliate; a people who resisted Hellenistic expansion with a waning patience to enter strange mansions. Answers to their prayers at the temple did occur when lamp oil was low and none could be procured; God said burn this that will last more than a day to symbolize that my presence is here to stay. Today on the menorah we light candles eight to remember burning the oil, years of late; to symbolize His presence in the face of fate Hebrews would soon send the Syrians to their gate. This is quite beautiful. I remember lighting the menorah for friends while I lived on a kibbutz in Israel. We shared stories, songs, and Blackberry wine. And many of us climbed Mount Masada together that year. So many memories. And so many tears for what is happening today. |

Thank you for sharing this with us. In learning about other cultures, we can only grow and hopefully gain understanding of each other that will lead to peace in this world. ![]() |

Thanks for the replies, I do like to write about other cultures too that I have lived in and learnt things from as an international personality...share that with those that are less fortunate and cannot travel and those who would like to know more about the world. ![]() |

Martin, it's nice to see the spirit of Hannukah lives on and the legend is passed on. Kethry Here in the midst of my lonely abyss, a single joy I find...your presence in my mind. Unknown |

Thank you for doing this not only because of Hannakah, but for its understanding. Extremely well done. I wish all those celebrating Hannakah a wonderful hoiday, filled with love, family and friends. [This message has been edited by Mysteria (edited 12-15-2001).] |
