STARGAZER Imagine in mind as I will in verse, All the stars of the universe. Shining bright through the vastness of space In symmetric harmony and grace. Majestic mystery in multitude, A red and blue romantic interlude. Projecting promise with prominence, In a twinkling aura of omnipotence. Look closer now, let's pick just one; One solitary sibling sun. From the realm of time, space, and dimension Unexercised by human apprehension. An incandescent, gleaming glare -- A glowing white and red pocket of air, Giving warmth and light and life and love -- Gliding boldly through the sky above. Look closer now, beyond this star, To where we watch it from afar. Exquisite splotches of green and blue Proffer such a delicate, peaceful hue. And round and round and round she goes, Yes, where she stops, nobody knows; Lost in the merriment and mirth Of our beloved planet Earth. Look closer now, into the awestruck eye Of a child staring, blindly, at the sky. The celestial bodies ablaze fashion A brilliant spectacle of inspiring passion. But how long till he begins to ponder? -- Till the innocence begins to wander? -- Till the days one by one pass him by Without so much as a glance to the sky? -- Till every night in dark discord He heralds dispassion's reward? -- Till demands and deadlines of life disperse The very wonder of this universe? Michael R. Anderson But dreams of those who dream as I, |

I've often read your work and wondered how you could make such beautiful poetry from the same words I use to make mediocre poetry. You have a gift. Rare indeed. It is always a pleasure to read you. Welcome home. |

Thanks all - just dug this out of the archives when I saw Sharon's post on the color of the universe. There is so much more to the universe than meets the eye and to have it all summed up as one color, or as black and white as some other scientists have tried to do, just astounds me. Although the one person who said "leave the color of the universe to the poets" may have been jabbing at us, I say he is correct in this assessment - it is, indeed, best left to the poets. Michael |

"But how long till he begins to ponder? -- Till the innocence begins to wander?" "-- Till demands and deadlines of life disperse The very wonder of this universe?" Such wonderful visuals throughout this piece Michael ... the imagery brings a kaleidoscope of pictures to my mind. I remember once gazing at the sky, feeling the same wonderment as the child you describe ... where do the days go? You've captured the innocence and awe of the universe ... and contrasted it beautifully to the starkness of our own reality as it looms in the distance. A wonderful piece ... always a pleasure to read you. ![]() Best wishes, /Kit |
