A couple of months ago I went to a poetry reading in my local area, I have to say it wasn't what I expected, i.e. stuffy and pretentious and I found that I really enjoyed myself, after I got back home I began to think about writing a couple of performance poetry peices myself but when I look at most of my work, especially my newer stuff it all tends to be no more than 10- 15 lines long and some not even 10-20 words. So to the crux of the issue are there any performance poets here at pip and if so how suitable would are short poems for performance (I'm personally thinking that a quarter of an hour of short poems would be quite frustrating). Oh and any tips on writing longer works would be appreciated (though I realise that there is no merit in longer poems per se). |

I enjoyed April too, Andrew. Saw three out of four exceptional poets... and one was truly into poetry as a performance. His whole demeanor, body, voice...everything demanded "listen!" and we did... I've a couple of links for you...thought this would help you get off to the right start. http://www.suite101.com/welcome.cfm/performance_poetry http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Performance_poetry have fun! |

Also, found some guidelines... quote:Excerpt from: http://jackbowman.home.mindspring.com/poetry/perfpoet.htm This probably answers your question best. |
