I watched him walk
the length of her
lightly tapping
keys in scale.

"This," he said, "is upright grand."
He smiled.
"I know you do not understand."
Then he hit a chord of hand
fingers splayed a mystery
He had to stand
to make the point
bass in flats
past middle C
with a champagne bubbling
of trickles
down my ears in beg...

"My god.." he breathed
too sexually
and kicked the stool
to suit his hind.
I watched his brows
knit into one
as he seethed
my reprimand
rippling
the part of me
that few men
ever understand--
He said:
"piano's need to bleed--"
he said "a string
needs to be stretched--"

"An instrument needs to be played..."

And I agreed.
I sang--duet
within
exhale of cigarette--

I did not clap
when he was done.

I was an audience
of one.

Well, you know what I read into this, of course, and it reads beautifully. I like the title..."Sheet Music" would also work.
