On the edge of an abyss

When did I go away again?
stop being me, go numb?
Has anyone in my life noticed
I'm not the same person anymore?

The sound of a childs laughter
is the sweetest sound I've ever heard,
and yet, I seek solace even from that.

I need to feel the quiet.
I need the solace of hearing nothing
but my own thoughts.
I need to listen quietly enough
so that someday, maybe someday........
                    I'll find myself again.
