A Heart Of Gold

She sat before the mirror
Pen and paper in her hand
She stared at her reflection
Then began to write again

Here I see a heart of gold
Purest in most forms
Peculiar in the oddest shape
Big chunks seem to be gone

I think it could be melted down
Reshaped and formed again
Cloaked inside the outer
Gold lies deep within

So if you shape this heart of gold
Please add a daily shine
And if you should mistreat it
This heart will lose its shape
Then before your very eyes
With wings, this heart escapes
