[ I write this today for a dear person in my life
who has recently experienced a set-back, hoping to encourage and strengthen them]

Oh those dreaded set-backs
Spoiling our life's fun,
As darkening clouds which creep in
And work to obscure our sun.
Just when things started looking up,
The clouds of life came and covered it up!

Why must there be a seesaw effect?
Why must life's gravity pull us down?
And why must we be it's targets to select
When finally our feet's on the ground?
Is "flat-lining" only for the dead?
Can we not make steady progress ahead?

Oh Lord, help us understand
Your Guidance here is needed,
Lest by the set-backs that we meet
We find ourselves defeated.
Help us Lord, we seek Your Face,
Lift us up in Thy Embrace!

Though they are unchosen
As part of life, I have come to expect,
Things come and change does quickly happen
Which I would not for myself select.
But thank You, God, I'm not alone,
In all my trials,Love You have shown!

If it comes through my own sin
Areaping of what I've sown,
Help me see my error's way
And the wrong path that I've gone.
And turn my feet into the Right way,
T'ward a brighter SON-filled day!

If it come to me as Faith's test
May I prove that I Trust in Thee,
And together we shall prove
A Match for Adversity!
For when I'm weak, I seek Your Strength,
Which for me, will go the length!

For whatever reason
That the set-backs flow,
Keep me safe in your Loving Arms
And never let me go!
Help me e'er to depend on You,
Through all of Life and in set-backs, too.

You are certainly a wonderful counselor with words of hope and support. I pray that your friend finds comfort.
I too experienced one of life's setbacks recently and come here for support and trust by reading people's submissions.

Those dreaded trials and test in life can be so difficult to endure. Through it all we learn to trust who knows best.

It is a wonderful thing to know the Lord and to have friends who encourage us to rise above the set backs in life... We all have them and during these times of our lives we do depend on one another even the more. The person in your life is blessed to have someone like you to hold them up in prayer and fellowship as you have done for me... Thank you for your encouragement, Bob <><
